Sew Crafty Friday

For Sew Crafty Friday this week I made some cloth napkins. As you can tell, I have been trying to stop using everything disposable at our home. So the next thing up was cloth napkins. Since the children are still little, I decided to make some fun ones, instead of having them all matchy matchy. Before I know it they will be older, and not get a kick out of spider napkins. ;0) Although, as soon as my beloved saw them, he said, "ohh, which one is mine. " So maybe they won't outgrow them. lol ;0)

As you can see, they are very colorful. ;0)
I made a total of 18. I made 6 for every meal, one for each of us. I made three girly ones, and three boyish ones.
I serged all round them, and that was it. They were very simple to make. If you don't have a serger, you can zig-zag all around, or you can fold and then stitch.
I cut them out at 11x11, and they were the perfect size for smaller hands. If you are going to fold and stitch, I would do them a little larger, to account for the folding over. Sorry this one is a little dirty. They have been having lots of fun using them already.
So tell me, what crafty goodness have you done this week? Please share. Just link up below in the Mr. Linky so we can go take a peek. You don't have a blog? No problem. You can still participate. My email address is on the right hand column. Just email me your pictures, and I will post them up here.

Good morning, Lisa. I used flannel for the napkins. The last time Joann's put their really good flannel($5.99) on sale for 2.00 a yard. I bought a lot of it. Maybe too much. ;0) I like the flannel because it's pretty absorbant.

Will you have to soak them before washing them so they don't stain up?Or just use spray and wash on them?Curious cause my kids get pretty greasy hands.

Shereen,

I'm so busy this summer with almost no computer time. But I still keep checking in to your blog to see what you are doing. I really like you napkins. I really like the idea of cloth everything. I'm longing for time to sew. Right now I'm so tired that I think I'd better try to nap before I do anything else.

Mr.s Jessica,I haven't noticed any stains on them yet. I just through them in with our regular wash. I would think the main thing that would stain in our house is spaghetti sauce. I can't think of any greasy food that we eat that would stain them. I'll let you know how they turn out.

Thank you so much ladies, for your kind comments.

Elizabeth Joy, I will be praying for you and some rest. I didn't realize you were teaching this summer. I know you mentioned it before, but I forgot all about it.

Betty-Jo, I hope your move goes smoothly, and you get settled in quickly.

Debbie, I like your new picture.

D, I will go take a peek at your skirt during my next free time. ;0)

What fun napkins Shereen! Love them!

I read your laundry post too...that's quite a savings. I like to hang dry on hangers as well.

Proverbs 31 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar. She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens. She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard. She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms. She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night. She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff. She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet. She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple. Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land. She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant. Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates. Pr 31:10-31
